TYPES OF TRAFFIC

Simply stated:  Traffic is simply the number of people who view your website and the number of files that they look at. As a web site owner, you should realize that there are two very distinct types of traffic. 

  • Targeted traffic - These are people who are specifically searching for something and have found your web site. If you view the cyber world in terms of a mall, they have looked at the mall directory (search engine) and found your store.

  • Untargeted traffic -  These are people who are sent to your site or see your ad but are not really looking for a specific product or service. Using the same example of a mall, these visitors are looking at your window displays as they walk by. 

Once you understand this very basic concept, it becomes obvious that targeted traffic will generally be more effective than untargeted traffic because you actually get visitors who are specifically looking for what you are selling. Untargeted traffic works well to get general awareness of your product or service and it will generate impulse purchases and generate requests for more information about your products and services.
